William Hall Obituary

William Lincoln "Bill" Hall 1922 ~ 2011 William Lincoln "Bill" Hall, 89 years of age, passed away in Boise, Idaho, on May 16, 2011. He was born in a farmhouse near Frost, Texas, on May 3, 1922 to Walter and Mary Hall. The baby of the family, Bill lived mainly in Cisco, Texas with his brother Elzy and four sisters: Ethie, Esther, Edna, and Cora. The son of a sharecropper, Bill attended a small three-room schoolhouse, worked in the cotton and cornfields, and earned 5 cents for each jack rabbit he dispatched for the ranchers. In 1940 Bill's family moved to Pasadena, CA. In 1942 Bill was inducted into the U.S. military and served honorably in England during WWII as an Air Force mechanic on B-26 and B-17 bombers. Bill married Lois Ellen Shirley on September 12, 1947. They recently celebrated their 63rd anniversary. After the war Bill owned a tile company in Pittsburg, CA. and then Hall's Printing and Stationary in Hollywood. For many years he printed the ballots for the Grammy Awards. They moved to Boise in 1977 where Bill owned Johnson Sporting Goods in Emmett and later worked in the sporting goods department at Payless on Fairview. For several years he served as a volunteer for the Boise Police Department. Jim, Charlene and their families later followed them to Idaho. In 1952 Bill committed his life to Jesus Christ. He served different churches over the years as deacon and elder. He was a member of the Gideon's Bible Society. Bill will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty, generosity, ability to forgive, and also his love of the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was either bailing out boats, getting stuck, scaring away fish and game, or losing his hunting dogs. The outdoors was always an adventure with Bill. His sense of humor will be missed. Bill left us a rich legacy of love for God, family, friends, and country. He leaves behind his wife, Lois; his daughter Sharon and her husband Patrick Sullivan of Phoenix, Arizona; Charlene and her husband Gary Miller of Meridian; Jim and his wife Kelly Hall of Boise; six grandchildren (Holly, Shannon, Erin, Geoff, Drew, and Patrick) and four great-grandchildren (Asha, Brennan, Jackson and Cora) and his best friend, Eric Olsen. Another member of the "Greatest Generation" has entered his rest. Well done, good and faithful servant. The family would especially like to thank the care givers at Four Rivers Hospice for their professional care and the personal concern they showed to Bill and his family during the recent months. A brief memorial service will be held in Bill's honor at the Idaho Veteran's Cemetery on Monday, May 23rd, 2011 at 2:00 PM. We will gather to remember Bill at the Community Center in the Shenandoah Mobile Home Park on State St. in Garden City at 3pm. www.cremationsociety-idaho.com

Bill Hall was a privilege to know and a joy to call a friend for nearly 50 years.
"God called you home, Bill, and you left us here.
In an ever-shortening time we'll see you there."
