Dora Gay Collins
1938 - 2014
Dora Gay Collins, 75, of Boise passed away May 2, 2014 at a local hospital after a long battle with Leukemia. Dora was born in 1938, in Gannett, ID, being the first of eight children born to Ivon and Jane Worthington. The Worthington family moved from the Wood River Valley area to Grand View, Idaho in 1950. Dora spent her teenage years "sowing her oats" in Grand View. She graduated from Grand View High School in 1957. After graduation she started working at the Mountain Home AFB where she met and later married MSGT Jack Lee Collins in 1961. They had one daughter together, Ria in 1962. In 1967 on their property in Grand View Jack passed away. Shortly afterwards Dora and Ria moved to Boise for Dora to attend Boise Junior College. While attending school Dora met George Grisham and she had a second daughter, Ivy, in 1969. They all relocated to Mountain Home in 1970 and then to Colorado Springs in 1974. In 1975 she attended school to receive her real estate license. In 1976 she and the girls relocated to Boise after she separated from George. She worked for several real estate agencies until the market slowed down in the late 70's. In 1978 she was baptized into the LDS church. She worked at The Merc as the buyer for all of the stores until it closed in 1984. Dora then returned to school to receive training in bookkeeping. She worked for many small stores in the Boise area until 1994 when her mother became ill. She then received her CNA license so she could become mother's full-time caregiver until her passing in 2001. She worked for Life's Doors Home Care Solutions until she was diagnosed with CML in 2005 and decided to retire. She enjoyed doing jig saw puzzles, reading, and visiting with family and friends about old times. Her house was always decorated for all the holidays, inside and out. Her home was always the central gathering place for family holidays and events.
Dora is survived by her brothers and sisters: Pearle Snelson of Winnamucca, NV, Diana (Jerry) Farmer of Redmond, WA, Peggy Worthington of Boise, ID, and Iva (Bill) Henson of Boise, ID, Jeff (Vicki) Worthington of Washington and Bruce Worthington of Mt.
