James Gardiner Youtz
Be the first to share your memories or express your condolences in the Guest Book for James Gardiner Youtz.
James Gardiner Youtz passed away at his home in Boise on July 7, 2014 from cancer. His beloved family members were with him until just hours before his passing.
Jim was born into a career Navy family on July 13, 1951 in Philadelphia, and spent the first years of his life in Boston, Virginia, and Newfoundland, until he ended up in San Rafael, CA. He and his older brother, Peter, went to school there, but when college time came, Jim selected the College of Idaho, relocated to Caldwell, and after that he was an Idaho guy.
In the mid-1970s, Jim started his first career with AT&T, where he met Linda Walker. On New Year's Eve 1977, he married Linda, daughter of Hank and Chick Adair of Boise. Jim instantly became a stepdad to Cynthia and Robert, ages nine and seven. "Daddy Jim" was a great stepfather, and continued a loving and caring relationship with Cindy and Rob long after Linda and Jim divorced in 1983.
AT&T transferred Jim back to New Jersey for a while, but when Jim retired from in 1996, he returned to Boise to begin a new chapter in his life. Jim had a special knack for helping people understand themselves and others. His work at AT&T had been in Personnel and Labor Relations, helping resolve conflicts, and he started a second career working for the State of Idaho as an Information Technology Specialist, helping state employees relate to their computers.
In 1996, the long-time bachelor met and began working with Carol Mowrey. They ran off to Las Vegas in 2003 and married with no fuss, no muss, and no wedding rings. Jim and Carol had eleven short, but very happy, years together, and each felt that they were the lucky one to have found the other.
Jim's first wife, Linda, and his second wife, Carol, became (and remain) the best of friends over the years, spending many a holiday dinner together with Linda's extended family and dear friends.
Jim is survived by his wife, Carol Youtz; his children, Cindy Reid and Rob Walker; all of the Boise/Mountain Home area; his mother, Doris Youtz of Greenbrae, CA; and his brother, Peter Youtz of Sea Ranch, CA.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gardiner Youtz, and his beloved dog Kelly, both of whom Carol reports he was looking forward to seeing again.
Carol plans to hold a memorial service for Jim in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Idaho Humane Society, or to a
