Katherine (Kay) I. Strayer
1923 - 2014
Katherine (Kay) I. Strayer, was born March 18, 1923 in Des Moines, Iowa to Frank and Lyndall Marturello. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1941. Kay married Tom Strayer August 15, 1942. They were married 69 years when Tom passed away January 6, 2012. They moved from Des Moines, IA to Boise in 1957.
Kay's passions were gardening and working in her yard. She grew the best tomatoes and the most beautiful flowers. Her cooking is legendary and we will miss her rigatoni and meatballs as no one can make it like she could.
Preceding her in death was her husband Tom, parents Frank and Lyndall, infant sister Mary, twin brothers who died at birth, and her brothers John and Joe Marturello.
Surviving are Tom and Kay's children: daughters Nita Bernard, St Paul, MN, Marie Bishop (Jack), Cordova, TN, Cindy Berry, Mountain Home, ID and her son, Thomas Strayer (Jackie), Bend, OR and her siblings Frank Marturello (Rachel), Boise, ID, Maxine Tyler and Donna Baker, Des Moines, IA. Kay had eleven grandchildren who adored her and will miss her terribly, twenty-one great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, and countless honorary family members and angels, all who are grateful for the incredible blessing of having this amazing woman in their lives.
