Shirley Jean (Chipman) Ward

Shirley Jean (Chipman) Ward passed away at the age of 79 on July 9, 2014, at her home in Cascade, Idaho, after battling ALS (Lou Gehrig Disease). Shirley was born on December 9, 1934, to Raymond and Eula Chipman in Boise, Idaho. She was raised with her siblings Richard, Carolee (Gentry) and Jon Chipman. She graduated from Boise High School in 1954 and later married Robert Ward in 1961. Robert and Shirley resided and raised their family in Boise's North End. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Richard and Jon, daughter Colleen, and nephew Larry Joe Gentry. She is survived by her husband Robert, children and families Dan Ward, Pamela (Ward) and Rod Colton, Trent and Robin Ward, Brent and Jenny Ward, grandchildren Shaylin, Kinsie, Jackson and Gabriella, sister Carolee Gentry and several cousins.
Shirley spent her years being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother while also working as a cook at the Red Lion Inn of Boise from 1979-1996 where she was recognized as "Employee of the Year". She then continued her work at Grandma's Restaurant in Cascade from 2006-2012.
Shirley and Robert relocated to the Cascade area in 1992 where she enjoyed hosting family and friends. The highlights of her life were her children and grandchildren, she was quick to share that with anyone she met. Her warm caring heart, witty sense of humor, and overwhelming hospitality will be missed by all who knew her. Her loving husband of 53 years never left her side over the past few months as he nursed and cared for her throughout her debilitating disease. The family would like to thank McCall Hospice, family and friends for their loving support and superb care throughout her struggle, God bless all of you!
