Josiah Herring Obituary

Josiah Lee Herring 2004-2009 Josiah Lee Herring, age four, went home to be with his "Best Friend" at 12:22 a.m. on Wednesday morning, May 20, 2009. Josiah is survived by his parents, Jason and Suzanne, and his older brother, Jason Junior, age seven. Josiah was born on July 9, 2004, in Statesboro, Ga. One month later, in August 2004, his family moved to Eagle, Idaho to plant the North Valley Baptist Church. Josiah was full of personality, and he brightened any room he walked in to. He loved the place his family calls "home." Friday, March 27 began a fifty-five day journey for little Josiah with an inoperable brain tumor. During that journey Josiah was surrounded by friends and family, but moreover he discovered a Friend that was born for adversity. The night before his biopsy was to be performed Suzie and I heard him sing in his sleep: "I love you, Lord; I love you, Lord; You're everything to me." Josiah for the first time referred to his Friend by the compound title: "Lord Jesus Christ." When Suzie and I would tell Josiah that we loved him, Josiah would respond, "I love you too, but I love Jesus the most" - a disclaimer that we had never heard before. In fifty-five days our Lord and Saviour would touch thousands through the remarkable testimony of a four-year-old. On the final morning of Josiah's Make-A-Wish trip to Disney World he fell asleep in our resort room overlooking the Magic Kingdom. Ten days later Josiah Lee woke up in heaven. He passed up a character breakfast at Chef Mickey's to dine in paradise with the One he loved the most. Josiah's homegoing service will be held at the chapel from Summers Funeral Home on 3629 E. Ustick Road in Meridian at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 23. A brief ceremony will follow at the Dry Creek Cemetery where Josiah will be laid to rest. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, May 22, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Idaho, 4355 Emerald Street #280, Boise, Idaho, 83706.

Dear Herring family,

Having lost my cousin's five year old son, Ethan, to something similar, your precious Josiah's situation deeply touched our hearts. We prayed for you during that difficult time, and will be praying for you during this even more difficult time. Thank you for sharing Josiah's last days. They were so similar to Ethan's and how he felt about the Lord Jesus Christ. Such short life times, but such powerful testimonies of a four and six year old. What comfort to know they are with the Lord. May the Lord be your family's comfort and strength in 2010.

My name is LT Chris Sutphin, I am currently in Afghanistan and away from my children and wife. My home church has been praying for you and Josiah, and I have also. I cannot know what it feels like to be cut off from my child for so long (for none knows when we will go home) but I do know that the joy of the reunion will far outweigh the sorrow. May the Father continue to lift you up, for you know he is sitting at the Son's knee. God Bless.

Dear Jason Suzanne and Jason Jr.,
My daughter sent me your article from the Statesman. I am a med/surg pediatric nurse. I was so sorry to hear about your son's passing. It sounds like Josiah was blessed in personally knowing Christ. I am sure his passing onto the next life was a gentle one full of God's love and presence. Still, the empyness you feel as this happens to you as a parent cannot be discribed. I have a few friends this has happen to as well. I cry with them and try to be there for them.I try to remeber that even though I gave birth to 8 (oldest is 33, youngest 16) (I am a widow also 8 years), these children that I call mine are really not mine. They are just a gift God let me hold for a while. I will continue to pray for you and your journey. Be not afraid. for the Lord is with you. Sincerely, Laurie Bankhead [email protected]
