1921 - 2013
Myrtle "Mert" Lowman passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013, in Meridian, Idaho, at the age of 91.
Mom was born in 1921, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, daughter of Francis and Lydia Wadsworth. She was raised in a farming community north of Blackfoot, Idaho (Wapello). She graduated High school from Blackfoot in 1940, and then enrolled into the Idaho Southern branch college as one of the 1st 20 women to enroll in the vocational school.
Mom married Don Lowman on January 1, 1942 after a long courtship (2 weeks) and people said it wouldn't last. 61 years later they figure they proved all the skeptics wrong.
Dad entered the US Navy on August 18, 1942, and Mom followed him from port to port, from Seattle to San Pedro to San Francisco, until Dad was sent to an outpost off Alaska at which time she returned to Pocatello, Idaho.
Dad returned from the war in 1945 to rejoin Mom and son Gary (born in 1943). They resided in Pocatello, Idaho, where their other two children (Brent and Karla) were born. They moved to Jerome in 1955 where Dad started an insurance Agency with his brother and Mom started a 22 year career as a meat wrapper for Safeway's.
In 1979, Mom and Dad built a house just across the road from the Jerome Country Club where Mom enjoyed playing golf in her earlier years. She and Dad were regulars on the Couples ICGA. Mom also liked playing games of all kinds but bridge was her favorite and even though she didn't think so, people said she was very good.
In 1997, Dad and Mom bought a 2nd home in Yuma, Arizona, in order to get out of the cold Idaho winters. They thoroughly enjoyed the warm winter climate, and their new found friends from all over the US and Canada.
Mom had a good sense of humor and the best smile and cutest laugh ever.
Her family meant the world to her. She would have done anything she could to help any family member in need. She always worried about our well being up until the end. She was fine if we were fine.
Mom is survived by her brother, Dale (Leda) Wadsworth of Blackfoot Idaho, brother, Ferris Wadsworth of Sacramento, CA; sons, Gary (Cathy) Lowman of Meridian, and Brent Lowman of Pocatello; her daughter, Karla Honeywell (Bruce) of Anchorage, Alaska; four grandchildren, Angela Lowman, of Portland, Ore., Todd (Suzanne) Lowman of Meridian, Brad Lowman, of Boise, Tim (Misty) Percifield, of Meridian; eight great-grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter, and several nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by Dad, her parents, and several brothers & sisters.
The family would like to thank the many people who helped care for her, especially the staff at Touchmark Assisted Living, who gently and lovingly attended to her final days. You have been amazing.
The family would also like to thank Dr. David Nielsen and his wonderful nurse, Rosie, & St. Lukes Idaho Cardiology all of whom have given her such great care over the past several years.
Mom was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Cloverdale Funeral Home, 1200 N. Cloverdale Road in Boise.
