Specialist Thomas Paige Murach
Specialist Thomas Paige Murach, 22, of Meridian, ID, was killed by an improvised explosive device in Maiwand District in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan on May 4, 2013, while serving in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Tom Murach was born at Mountain Home Air Force Base, ID, on May 16, 1990. He spent most of his childhood in Nampa, ID, then moved to Meridian, ID, where he graduated with honors from Cole Valley Christian School in May 2008.
In September 2010, Murach entered the US Army as an infantryman. After completing the Infantry Training Course at Fort Benning, GA, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss, TX. Shortly thereafter, SPC Tom Murach was selected to be a member of Reconnaissance Platoon as a sniper. In December 2012, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of OEF as the senior sniper for his platoon.
SPC Tom Murach's awards include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, , the NATO Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Afghan Campaign Medal with a Campaign Star.
The visitation will be held from 3:00-6:00 PM on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Alden Waggoner Funeral Chapel. All are welcome. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, May 20, 2013 at Capital Christian Center. Pastor Dave Abels of Holy Trinity Anglican Church and Chaplain Martinez of the Idaho Army National Guard will be officiating. All are welcome. Internment, with full military honors, will follow the funeral service at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.
Thomas Murach is survived by his mother Mary, brothers Nick, Will, and Mike, father Chet, and many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
