1935 ~ 2013
James Joseph Skidmore, USN (Ret.), passed away peacefully at home on June 11, 2013 with his loving wife of 50 years by his side.
James was born on February 19, 1935 in Pottsville, PA to Thelma and Joseph Skidmore. Jim was the eldest of four boys raised in Philadelphia. He joined the United States Navy shortly after graduating high school, traveling extensively throughout the world. Various duty stations included Washington D.C., San Diego, Turkey and Okinawa, Japan. Jim retired as an E-8 Senior Chief Petty Officer in 1976 after 20 years of service. While in Okinawa, Jim met the love of his life, Fumie Shimabukuro. After his discharge from the Navy, Jim and Fumie settled in the Boise area where they would raise two boys and Jim would go on to retire a second time after working approximately twenty more years for Boise Cascade.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Fumie; his two sons and their spouses, Tom (Sarah) and Howard (Tammy); five beautiful grandchildren, Emma, Sean, Brittany, Jory and Landria and his three brothers and their families.
Per Jim's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service with full military honors will be held, 11:00 a.m., July 8, 2013 at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.
