Chrisella Ruth Tullis McDermott, 87, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2013 of natural causes in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Chrisella, the daughter of Christine Elese Pascoe Tullis and William Edwin Tullis, was born at the home of her Grandmother Christine Pascoe on Dec. 21, 1926 in Nampa, Idaho. Raised in Homedale, Idaho, Chris attended Homedale High School as well as Adrian High School in Adrian, Oregon. In her youth she played basketball, baseball and enjoyed the Big Band dance halls in Vancouver, Washington and Nampa, Idaho. In 1942, at the age of 16, during WWII, she worked as a welder on the USS Roosevelt in Puget Sound. Chris was married to her love, Alvin Ross McDermott, on Jan.7, 1945, at the Nampa home of her grandmother. After the death of her husband, Chris attended Links Business College in 1966 and obtained a certificate in Business and Executive Administration. Later working as the Executive Assistant to the President of Columbia Basin College, the Atomic Energy Commission and for the U.S. Forest Service transporting firefighters and supplies. Chris was very talented: musician, poet, oil painter, cake decorator and landscaper. In 1968, a poem she wrote for her mother was published. She loved her country and the state of Idaho, but most of all she loved her family.
Chrisella is survived by her brother Clint Tullis and sisters Eulia Tullis and Laurie Raber, her children Terrell McDermott, Darren McDermott, Kathleen Buchanan, Shannon Ferrell, LaNette McDermott and step-daughter Elaine Alfred. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren.
The Celebration of Life for Chrisella McDermott will be held Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Latter Day Saints in Marsing, Idaho.
