Capt. James F.
Died peacefully on Feb. 8, 2013 in Sarasota, Fla. after a long battle of complications from a stroke in 2008. Born in Wheeling, W.Va, on Sept. 15, 1932 to the late James F. and Avaleen Doane, Jim was raised in Canton, Ohio and graduated from Lehman High School. He attended The Ohio State University, where he was a member of the Buckeye Gymnastics and Cheerleading Team and earned his degree in Business Administration. In 1954, he married the love of his life and fellow Buckeye, Nancy Sue Locke. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a commissioned 2nd Lieutenant where he flew in the Strategic Air Command and was later promoted to Captain. In 1959, Jim began his 31-year career as a Captain for Eastern Airlines. In 1960, he formed Aerial Photography Services, Inc., a family-operated post card and souvenir business. Jim was an excellent photographer, an avid golfer, and world traveler. Throughout his earthly journey, he helped many people, served in various churches, professional associations, and countless other charitable organizations. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the AASR-Valley of Canton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert L. Doane. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy L. Doane; daughters, Deborah Yost (Steve), Catherine Joseph (Joe), Julie Wichert (Tom); grandchildren, Janie Geis (Mark), Daniel Yost, Lauren Miller (Aaron), Sarah Yost, Kaitlyn Joseph, Benjamin Joseph; great-grandchildren, Taylor Joseph and Jesse Geis; loving brother, John R. Doane, Sr. (Candy); nieces, Tammy, Diane, and Brigid; and nephews, John, Jr. and Robert, Jr.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14 at Reed Funeral Home North Canton Chapel, 801 Pittsburg Ave. NW, North Canton OH 44720, followed by burial at Forest Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 11 a.m. 1 p.m. The family would like to thank the staff at the Glenridge in Sarasota, Fla. for taking such good care of Mr. Doane.
