Doris Marie (Aeschbacher)
Cogan
Life's journey is not to arrive safely at the grave in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways totally worn out shouting, "Oh my...what a great ride!" Doris, age 91, took her final ride Monday evening, Feb. 24, 2014, at home, better known as 1120, as she entered Heaven. There to greet her was her father and mother, (Ed and Dorothy); brother, Bud; and son, Jack. Her early ride began at Clarendon Elementary then onto Lincoln High School. She had many friends, lots of fun, and was slightly ornery. She married Earl, the father of her children in 1939. As her ride continued a detour changed the course of her life. She became a single mom of three, Jack and twins Jim and Joan. After working several jobs she finally traveled the road to Sugardale, that changed her life. As a meat packer for almost thirty years she was able to send her children to college and was so proud they graduated debt-free. Then came the exciting ride to becoming a grandmother of five, John (Kennedy), Jeff (Deb), Julie (Josh), Dan and Katie (Mike). After Julie's birth it was good-bye Sugardale, hello retirement. She loved listening to them read, telling them stories, cooking their favorite foods, baking special goodies, and creating fond memories that are so dear to them now. She then was blessed with another joyful ride in her ‘80s that of great-grandmother. Her six girls arrived, Ellie, Harper, Lucy, Hadley, Anna and Harlow. With them she enjoyed feeding time, building puzzles, playing cards and lots of laughter. She often thought, 'Will I even get a great-grandson too?' Last year William Everett Arthur, known only to her as 'Baby Billy', was born. Her mind was sharp, body wearing out, but family complete.
In addition to son, Jim; daughter, Joan and Bob Jacks, in stepped Robin Davis. Robin became not just a neighbor, but a dear friend and her night watchman as Doris's health rapidly declined. What a blessing! Doris was a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church. She saw that her children grew up with a church family, never missed a Sunday, and instilled in them always to lean on the Lord for strength.
Family and friends may call Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at The Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel and on Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church (702 Raff Rd. S.W.) from 11 to 12 p.m. where services will be held at 12 p.m. with Pastor Carolyn Wager- Hier officiating. Interment will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery.
