age 80, of Massillon died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010 at Affinity Medical Center, ending his courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Massillon Dec. 14, 1930, son to the late William E. and Mary R. Smith. Fred was a retired sheet metal engineer and had been employed by Reliable Heating and Cooling Company for fifty-six years. He loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the Brewster Anglers Club where he enjoyed camping and fishing. Fred had a wonderful sense of humor and was very quick witted. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, William and John, and a sister, Bertha (George) Vitak.
Fred leaves behind the love of his life, his wife, Betty J. (Gerber) Smith with whom they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Jan. 24; two daughters, Kay A. Resh and Vicki J. (Ed) Rohr, both of Massillon; three grandchildren, Stephanie (Kevin) Williams of Waynesburg, Donovan L. Resh II of Los Vegas, Nev., Anthony Frederick Michael Rohr of Massillon; and two great-grandchildren, Natalie Elizabeth Resh and Kaitlyn Nicole Williams.
Fred's wishes were to be cremated and a memorial service will be held 7:30 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 21, 2010 at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon.
