James Knouff Obituary

James Knouff
passed away Monday, June 13, 2011, at Aultman Hospital after a brief illness. He was born Oct. 21, 1938 in Massillon, to the late Howard and Mary (Schmidt) Knouff. Jim was a 1957 graduate of Washington High School. He retired after 25 years with Fleming Foods. Jim spent a great deal of his time working with the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, of which he was a member for over 40 years. He worked with some of his dearest friends in providing food and necessities for Massillon area families.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael (1979); a sister, Noreen Hoffman; and a brother, Roland Knouff. Jim was a kind soul, devoted husband, loving father and proud grandpa. He enjoyed making his loved ones smile; whether it was with a joke, a loving hug or simply with a phone call to remind them that he cared. Joy was found in the simple things in life, like peanut butter sandwiches, a hot cup of coffee or reading the newspaper front to back.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Rita (Peters) Knouff; sister, Margaret Knouff; their children, Marc and Penny Knouff, Rebecca and Allen Boley, Roberta Dexter and Ann and Scott Paris; grandchildren, Matthew, David, Larissa, Joseph, Rowan, Coralyn, Roshena, James and Mara; and great grandchildren, Joseph, Melodi and Haylie.
Friends may call Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Church in Massillon. His final resting place will be Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society at 206 Cherry Road N.E., Massillon, Ohio. Jim will continue on in the hearts and memories of all that have had the honor of knowing him. The world has lost one of the most selfless individuals it has had, but heaven has gained an angel.
