James Meredith Harris
Age 69, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 26, 2014. Born July 15, 1944, in Montgomery, Ala., to the late Myrtle Howard Blakey and Eugene Harris. After being honorably discharged from the Marines, he moved to Ohio and married Edna Mae (Maske) Harris in 1968. He was a graduate of the University of Akron, and went on to be employed by Akron Public Schools for 30 years. He was a member of Eastern Church of Christ in Akron, Ohio.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife of 32 years, Edna Mae Harris; brothers: Harold and Donald Harris; and sister, Barbara Pruitt. James leaves to cherish his memories, his children: Trina (Charles) Danzy, Jamila (Eric) Mitchell, Chotsani Harris (Rashawn), Zakiya Harris (DeAndre), Jabari Harris, Jahari, Njira, Jasira, Jibri, and Jana Harris; brothers, Norris (Mary) Harris of Alabama; Gary (Sheila) Harris, Jack Harris of Alabama, Clarence Harris of New York; sister, Doris Paridise of Alabama; grandchildren: Eric Jr., Amirah, Malik, Ja'Nihay Elijah, Xavier, Shani, Jor'Dion, Aubrey, Mason, Maliah and Emmanuel; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends to cherish his memory. He will be greatly remembered for his love of coaching the Ebony Stars Track Club in the Canton/Massillon area; and also for his love of collecting cars.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Northwest Church of Christ, 3904 - 38th St. N.W., Canton, OH 44718. Calling hours from 10-11 a.m. Service begins at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Massillon Cemetery.
