passed away Tuesday. Born in Canton to the late John and Stamatia (Zinilis) Karantanes she was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy Maxon and brother Nick Karantanes. She was a 1947 graduate of McKinley High School and a 1951 graduate of Kent State University. She did her graduate work at The Ohio State University and earned her Master's Degree at Case Western Reserve. She was elected to the National History Honorary and was listed in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities in 1951. She taught at Richville Elementary School, Louis Agicci Elementary School in Cleveland and worked for the Cleveland Board of Education as an Administrator. She was a member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church.
Survived by her brother, James Karantanes of Canton; sister and brother-in-law, Katherine and Peter Cashy of Gates Mills, Ohio; niece, Marissa (Timothy) Brinkley; nephews, Harry Peter Cashy, Dr. John Peter Cashy and Johnny Karantanes.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church with funeral services to follow at 11 a.m., Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating. Internment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Marian's name may be made to the Ladies Philoptochos Society of St. Haralambos or St. Haralambos Church.
