William J. Merriman
age 79, passed away on Aug. 8, 2011 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on Nov. 2, 1931 in Burton City, Ohio to William J. and Alice (Nussbaum) Merriman Sr. A life resident of Dalton, he was a 1949 graduate of Dalton High School and retired from Buckeye Feed. William was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army. He attended Cornerstone Community Church, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends and teasing everyone. He also enjoyed listening to big band music.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathryn L. He is survived by his children, Denise (Joe) Shapaka of Orrville, John (Donna) Merriman, Diane Merriman, and Alan (Shelley) Merriman, all of Dalton; grandchildren, Rachel (Brett) Cote of Cincinnati, Valerie Merriman of Cincinnati, Matt Shapaka of Orrville, Micajah Morgan, Joshua and Jared Merriman, all of Dalton; great-grandchildren, Parker and Lilly Cote of Cincinnati; brother, Tom (Edna) Merriman of Dalton; sisters, Maurine McGinty and Muriel Myers of Dalton, Lois (Gary) Bossler of Massillon; numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank close friend, Cherie Marthey for her care of dad.
Funeral service will be Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Community Church, 18600 Davis Rd., Dalton 44618 with Rev. Tim Hull officiating. Burial will be at Dalton Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the church and also one hour prior to service time on Thursday. Arrangements are being handled by the Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home in Dalton.
