81, went home to be with his, Lord on Feb. 16, 2013. Bill was born in Akron on May 17, 1931 to the late Dale and Esther VanBuskirk. He grew up in Kenmore, attended Bob Jones Academy, graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1949 and joined the U.S. Navy working as a flight radioman tracking hurricanes. He graduated from the University of Akron with an engineering degree, later receiving a Professional Engineering License. He worked for Goodyear Aerospace, Seiberling Tire and retired in 1995 from Bridgestone/ Firestone Tire Company where he traveled globally, supporting tire production. He enjoyed amateur radio (call sign K8AGC), gardening and working on anything mechanical. He was a member of Community Church of Portage Lakes for over 50 years, where at one time he served as a Trustee, Deacon and Sunday School Teacher.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Bob. Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anita; children, Gregory (Missy) VanBuskirk, Sharon (Roy) Mizener and John (Amy) VanBuskirk; grandchildren, Drew (fiancée, Ruth Koss), Jonathan, Victoria, Ashley, Apryl (Brian) Yoder, Stephanie Mizener, Andrew (Abby) Mizener, Emily (Andrew) Elliott, William, Kimberly, and Christina; great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Madelyn, Lola, Britain, and Lilly.
Friends may call at the Community Church of Portage Lakes (Steese Chapel) 3260 Cormany Rd., Akron on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013 from 10- 11 a.m. with services at 11 a.m., Pastor John Thielenhaus officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park.
