Mr. Runner was my 5th grade teacher at Martin. He was always so funny, and made learning fun. My most vivid memory is of him acting like a baseball umpire for our kick-ball games. May he rest in peace.

Jerry will live on in my memories as a quiet and kind man of God. He was a man in whom it was easy to see the reflection of Christ's life. My respect for him cannot be adequately expressed in words. I will see you again, my brother. I look forward to that day with great anticipation.

Mr. Runner is a legend among us Martin Elementary Students. Whenever there is a conversation about those Martin days, his name quickly enters the conversation. He singlehandedly orchestrated "fun" for us.We would play kick ball, wiffle ball, dodge ball.....and he always took the games to the next level. He made learning fun and when that question comes up, you know, who was your favorite teacher....after 35 years Mr. Runner is still always my answer. Thank you for sharing him with is because we are better people because of him!
I actually have a picture of him that i could share with you if you'd like.

Mr. Runner was my 5th grade teacher in 1991 at Woodland Elementary. He was engaging and funny and he cared. I will always remember how he took the time to pull me aside to see if I was okay during a very difficult time that I was having as a young adolescent. He noticed my changes in behavior and even decades later I am still touched by his kindness. I will always remember him as one of my greatest teachers and influences. I chose education as my career and now have a master's degree in education- thanks to wonderful teachers like Mr. Runner that made school a fun and positive learning environment for me. I can only hope that I am able to touch the lives of many students in such a way that he was able to touch mine. Wishing peace and comfort to family and friends as you celebrate his life.

Mr. Runner was my 5th grade teacher nearly 25 years ago. I still remember him telling us on the very first day of class that we had a fresh start in his classroom and he would not listen to anything our previous teachers had said about us. That changed my attitude toward school and his class was the first time I started to study and earn good grades. I later became the first in my family to attend college. I went on to receive a graduate degree and then worked as a school counselor. My life would have been very different without Mr. Runner in it. I am so sorry to hear that he has passed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I am so glad to know the Runner family. Jerry will be greatly missed. I did not grow up in a Christian home but Jerry was a wonderful and loving example of what an Earthly father should be (and was). That you Julie (and Jenny and Josh) for sharing your dad with me during the crucial years when I needed to find my way. Janet and Jerry always welcomed me into their home and I felt loved. That you Jerry and Janet for raising children who helped point their friends to Christ. It has eternally changed my life - So sorry for your loss. Very bittersweet I know. Love you ALL.
