James Emmett Akers (J.E.), 70, of Marion, and Galax, died April 26, 2013 at the McLeod Cloud Hospice House in Florence, S.C.
He was born May 10, 1942 in Fries to the late Lee and May Akers.
He is survived by his wife, Violet Jones Akers of Marion and Galax; sons James Akers Jr. of Marion, and Jonathan Akers of Marion and Galax; daughters, Erica Akers and partner John Crookshank of Galax, and Ashley Akers of Marion and Galax; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Nancy Akers of Fries; sisters and brothers-in-law, Evelyn and Wayne Carico, Anna and Bob Chappell, Juanita and Jimmy Sawyers, all of Galax; and several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Clarence and Carolyn Jones, Juanita and Stanley Bedsaul, all of Galax, Bobbie and Charlotte Jones of Fries, Katherine and David Haulsey of Hillsville, and Barbara and Wes McKinney of Ivanhoe.
His funeral service was held Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home Chapel in Galax, with the Rev. Ben Haga and Barry Lyons officiating. Entombment was in the Monta Vista Mausoleum. Military rites were conducted by Grayson County VFW Post 7726.
