Linda Carol Testerman, age 73, passed away on March 31, 2018 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Linda was born in Big Creek, W.Va. on July 18, 1944. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Harry Testerman; mother, Mabel Cox Davis; father, Bud Davis; grandmother and guardian, Luvenia Cox; and son, Timothy Ray Firestone.
Linda graduated from Spanishburg High School in 1962 in Spanishburg, W.Va., and graduated third in her class. She was a member of the National Honor Society. Linda also attended Wytheville Community College. She retired from General Dynamics in 2010 after 30-plus years. She was very well respected and enjoyed her work. Since her retirement, she hasn't had a day off.
Linda sacrificed so much in her life for her boys and for the people she loved. Linda was a very sprite woman for her age. She stayed very active by comforting those in nursing homes, making new friends, growing her sunflowers, tending to her garden and taking care of all her families. Her only selfish pastime was enjoying a good book.
Linda was very proud to have visited Guatemala several times over the past several years. "You should never turn down a chance to go somewhere," she would say. Even at her age, she helped build houses with an organization called "From Houses to Homes." She had a special bond with the families that she helped and for the children of the community.
Survivors include her sons: Anthony William Firestone and wife Beverly of Sugar Grove, and Mark Lincoln Firestone and wife Adeline of Marion; grandchildren: Anthony Firestone, Jr. and wife Beth, Christopher Hess, Michael Hess and wife Jolene, Audriana Firestone, Camilla Firestone and Lincoln Firestone; and great grandchildren: Austin Hess, Jada Hess and Mason Hess.
Linda is also survived by so many special people including her best friends: Debbie Owens of Marion and Betty Testerman of Street, Md., her General Dynamics family and her Resurrection Community Church family.
The family would like to thank Linda's family doctor, Dr, Chelsea C. Hamman, MD and her nurse Tara for their loving care for Linda over the years.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 4 at Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with Pastor Michael Owens, Pastor Chad Owens and Pastor Jonathan Stamper officiating. The family received friends prior to the service. Graveside services were held at Attoway Cemetery in Marion.
