Thomas Edward Conklin, age 72, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion.
Tom was born in Grayson County, to the late John W. Conklin and Ona Virginia Byrd Conklin and was preceded in death by his brothers John, Glen and Robert Conklin. He served in the US Army and was a lifelong farmer. Tommy was a member of the Cedar Bluff Baptist Church and loved spending time with his grandkids and watching them play sports. He was a great husband, father, brother, papaw and friend to anyone who knew him or ever needed him. 
Survivors include his wife Margaret Conklin; his children, John Conklin and wife Tami of Roanoke, Michael Conklin and wife Darlene of Salem, Mary Jane Huber and husband Dirk of Vernal, Utah, Amy Kearnes and husband Chris of Wake Forest, N.C., Brian Conklin and wife Jada of Sugar Grove; brothers, Louis Conklin and wife Sheretta of Abingdon, Buck Conklin and Wife Rosella of Mouth of Wilson, Carl Conklin of Atkins; sisters, Helen Conklin of Atkins, Edith Delby of Wytheville, Phyllis Street and husband Harold of Wytheville; sister in law, Pat Conklin; 17 grandchildren and one on the way; and several special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018, at the Bradley's Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Justin Hall officiating. Interment followed in Wassum Cemetery. The family received friends prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Go Forth Missions at Cedar Bluff Baptist Church, 132 Churchland Drive Atkins, VA 24311. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at bradleysfh.com.
