Charles Edward Shaw, 86, died Tuesday, November, 19, 2013, at the Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson, S.C.
Shaw, a native of Anderson, was the son of Albert and Pearlie Lee Evans Shaw of Anderson. He was a graduate of Hardin High School, joined the U.S. Navy at 17 to serve in World War II, and after his service earned a degree in engineering from the University of South Carolina. For most of his career, Shaw was a design engineer for Southern Railway and helped to develop the "piggyback" cars used to transport freight. He was also a vice president at R.L. Banks and Associates transportation consultants in Washington, D.C.
He is survived by: a daughter, Peggy Jo Shaw of Decatur, Ga.; grandchildren Melissa Basabe (Bert), Brendan Beatty, Elisabeth Beatty, Brian Parcell and Phillip Parcell; great-grandchildren Amanda and David Basabe; former wife and friend Idamay Shaw; and many loving nieces, nephews, and family members. He was pre-deceased by his parents, his brothers, and a daughter, Rowena Jean Shaw Vaughan.
The Memorial Service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. The committal of Charles' ashes will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military honors.
