George Louis Kline, age 93, of 2812 Echo Trail, Anderson, passed away at AnMed Health Medical Center on Tuesday, October 21, 2014. Born on March 3, 1921 in Galesburg, IL, he was the son of the late Allen S. Kline and the late Wahneta Burner Kline. He was the husband of the late Virginia Hardy Kline until her death in April, 2014.
Dr. Kline served his country during WW II in the US Army Air Corps. He received a Ph.D. from Columbia University in New York, and for 30 years, he was Professor of Philosophy at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. He was named the Milton C. Nahm Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at Bryn Mawr College. Dr. Kline was also Adjunct Research Professor of the History of Ideas at Clemson University. He was an honorary member of the Zenkovsky Society of Historians of Russian Philosophy in Moscow. He has authored several books on Russian Philosophy.
Survivors include a son, Jeffrey A. Kline of Ludlow, MA; 2 daughters, Brenda M. Kline of Anderson and Christina Hanak and husband, Frank, of Townville; a brother, Oliver R. Kline, and a sister, Natalie McMath; and 3 grandchildren, Rachel Hanak, Jesse Hanak and wife, Judith, and Meaghan McGuinness. In addition to his parents and his wife, Virginia, Dr. Kline was preceded in death by his step-mother, Martha Kline and his sister, Verna Topliffe.
