Mary Wensil MT. PLEASANT Mary Josephine Layton Wensil, 84, of Mt. Pleasant Rd. S., Concord, died Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at Universal Health Care. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 1, at Friendship United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Dale Bost and Rev. Tam Wensil. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Wensil family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 31, at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant. At other times, they will be at the residence of her son, Bill Wensil, 8130 New St., Mt. Pleasant. Mrs. Wensil was born Jan. 6, 1928 in Cabarrus County, the daughter of the late Harvey F. Layton and Mary Holland Layton. She was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church. She was retired from Fieldcrest Cannon Mills, she enjoyed knitting, word searches and flowers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lee Wensil; son Johnny Wensil; brothers, Johnny Layton and Ben Layton; and sisters, Bertie Gray and Lilie Benton. She is survived by sons, Bill Wensil and wife, Tam, Henry Wensil and wife, Vickie, and Keith Wensil and wife, Donna; daughters, Loretta Glover and husband, Grant, and Linda Sanders and husband, Terry; daughter-in-law, Stacy Troutman; sister, Cleo Widenhouse; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Friendship United Methodist Church, 4695 Mt. Pleasant Rd. S. Concord, NC 28025.
