Wanda Stevens Walter KANNAPOLIS Wanda Stevens Walter, 86, of Kannapolis, stepped into the arms of her Lord and Savior Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at the Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Walter was born Oct. 16, 1926, in McDowell County, a daughter of the late Aldie J. and Lassie Lunsford Stevens. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Sunday, Nov. 11), at Whitley's Funeral Home main chapel, with the Revs. Ron Bushy and Marty Cramer officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 1 to 2 p.m., at the funeral home. In her early years, she was employed as a telephone operator at Concord Telephone Co. She was a charter member of Charity Baptist Church. Wanda was a strong Christian woman, with a precious soul and giving heart and always greeted everyone with a smile and outstretched arms. Wanda was a very devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, leaving behind her husband of 66 years, William "Bill" Walter, of Kannapolis; two sons, Charles Walter (Helga), of Ecuador and James Walter (Connie), of Bonaire, Ga.; two daughters, Betty Walter and Gail Walter Drake (Don), both of Kannapolis; five sisters, Lois Davis, Reba Humphries, Hazel Tilson (John), Anita Richardson, and Bobbie Elliott, all of Old Fort; eight grandchildren, Sylvia Austin, Lori Walter, Kim Harkey, Kenny Looney, Christie Burleyson, Elizabeth Geelen, Daniel Walter, and Amber Ryan; 11 great-grand-children; and one great-great-grandchild.
