Exie Preddy CONCORD Mrs. Exie Anne Walker Preddy, 79, of Crestmont Dr., Concord, passed away, Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, after a brief illness. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m, Sunday, Dec. 16, at Cold Springs United Methodist Church, 2550 Cold Springs Rd., Concord, officiated by the Revs. Tony Bell and Mary Hatley. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Preddy family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, at Cold Springs United Methodist Church. Exie was born, Sept. 22, 1933, in Greensboro, daughter of the late Ruth Mabel Hobbs Walker and Burlee Walker. She was the most loving wife, mother, and "Nanny". She was married to James Robert Preddy, Sr., for 59 years. She was the mother of Janet Preddy Hollopeter (Warren), Cindy Preddy Love (Randy), James Robert Preddy Jr. (Barbara), David L. Preddy (Johnette), and Mark S. Preddy (Gindy). With her family attending the Mt. Pleasant Schools, she was involved as a substitute teacher and booster club member for many years. Exie was a member of Cold Springs United Methodist Church, where she was involved in many, many ways. She served as teacher, den mother, choir member, administrative board member, Meals on Wheels volunteer, and was a member of Mae Barnhardt Circle. United Methodist Women, both at Cold Springs and in North Carolina, was a very important part of Exie's life, and one of the avenues where she shared her Christian beliefs and served others. She also was a volunteer at Cooperative Christian Ministry for many years. Exie was also survived by Susie Blalock (Phil), and Gloria Beaver (Earl); four sisters, Dorothy Jean Walker, Martha Sue Fields, Virginia Fryar, Ella Dean Cobb, all of Greensboro. She has eight grandchildren, Joseph Hollopeter, Noah Hollopeter, Gabrielle Hollopeter, Heather Love (Anthony Sanders), Jeremy Love (Nichole), Justin Preddy, Benjamin Preddy, and Gordon Preddy; great-grand-children, Emma and Lyla Sanders. In lieu of flowers and in honor Exie's wishes, the family ask that donations be made to Cooperative Christian Ministry(CCM) P.O. Box 1717, Concord, NC 28026-1717 or the food bank of your choice. Can goods, or food items, may be brought to the church which will be distributed to CCM and Mt. Pleasant Food Ministry. Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant is serving the Preddy family.
