Gary, Barbara S, - Towanda  
Barbara S. Gary, 91, of Spring Hill passed away early Sunday morning April 19, 2015, at Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock. She was born May 27, 1923, on Spring Hill, daughter of the late Gerald S. and Lucy D. Carter Shumway. She graduated from Camptown High School. Most of her life was spent on the Hill, on the farm first acquired by her ancestor, Reuben Shumway, in 1805. Following a brief stint of employment prior to her marriage, she focused on raising her six children. When the children began to leave for college, she joined the cafeteria staff at Elk Lake School. Upon moving back to Spring Hill, she operated a thriving farm vacationing business for 13 years. Many guests became personal friends, returning annually, while others continued to keep in touch over the decades. After closing the vacation business, she became a DHIA milk tester for 17 years. At age 72, she retired to babysit her first great-grandchild, Isiaha Stethers. In addition to her family, she dedicated herself to church and community service. Barbara was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, serving at various times as Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, administrative board member, and trustee. She was involved with the United Methodist Women at Rush and Spring Hill, holding leadership roles at both the local and district levels. She also pieced over 1,000 Ugly Quilt shells for the homes, and contributed 90 baby quilts for Bradford County's new mothers program. She volunteered as a reading aid at Wyalusing Elementary School; tutored in the English as a Second Language program; and acting as a tutor with the Bradford County Literacy, and chaired the "Over the Hill Gang" for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Barbara enjoyed traveling and corresponding with family and friends, designing and making greeting cards, writing in her journals and, as an avid reader, finished nearly a book a day during her retirement. She is survived by her older brother, Thurston Shumway and his wife Marguerite of Ithaca, N.Y.; her children and their spouses, Cynthia and Sherman Wooden of Elk Lake, Dana Irwin of San Jose, Calif., and Kristin Smith-Gary of Spring Hill, Jennifer and John Brotzman of Windsor, Conn., Stephen Gary of Wyalusing, Neil and Leigh Gary of Tulsa, Okla. She leaves behind 18 grandchildren: David Applegate, Tracey Schraeder, Reina Wooden, Helena Wooden, Sherman Wooden; Jeffrey Irwin; Leigh Ann Smyth-Gary, Laura Smith-Gary, Grant Smith-Gary; Lori Stethers, Shannon Taylor, Damon Stethers, Andrew Brotzman, Michael Brotzman; Shana Gary, Hillary Gary; Natalie Gary, and Ryan Gary; as well as 16 well-loved great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She was predeceased by her parents; elder brother, Jerry Shumway; and son-in-law Larry Stethers. A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, at Spring Hill United Methodist Church, with visitation from 1-3 p.m. at the church. Arrangements were made through the Sheldon Funeral Home, 459 Main St., Laceyville, PA. Flowers will be provided by the family. Kolar, Joanne  
Joanne (Pretto) Kolar, 62, of Hallstead, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 13, 2015. Joanne passed away after a lengthy battle with liver disease. Her husband, Robert Kolar, survives. She was the daughter of Edward and Leocadia Monitsky, She is survived by her daughter, Colleen Houck and her grandson, Daniel Houck, both of Binghamton, N.Y; sisters, Marie Cesaro of New Jersey, and Carol Williams of Alabama. She is also survived by her step children, Robert Kolar Jr. and Mindy Bascharow; four step grandchildren, Jacob, Tyler, Travis and Danica. Joanne worked as a pharmacy technician/manager of the Medical Arts Pharmacy in Montrose, for many years. She loved gardening, bird watching, hunting and taking walks with her three furry children, Kodi, Tucker and Nikki. She also sang in the choir at her church, Franklin Hill Presbyterian. A casual celebration of life service will be held Sunday, May 17, 2015 at the Binghamton Elks Lodge on Rt. 11, Kirkwood, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Washburn, Doris E. - Oakland, Pa  
Doris E. Washburn, 81, of Susquehanna, passed away Tuesday April 14, 2015 at home after an illness. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law Carol and Dave Trevarthan; Connie and Chuck Groover; Caren and Bob Henry; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Ann Stalker of Port Orange, Fla.; brother, Nelson LaBarr of Clifton Springs, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews and loving friends. We didn't see it coming, but always new that it was near. A day that started out with smiles, ended with many tears. Our hearts are broken and loss we feel is great. She has left to be held once again in the arms of her true love. A graveside at the McKune Cemetery service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Hunsinger, Wilma J.  
Wilma J. Hunsinger, 62, of Rush Township passed away, Monday, April 6, 2015 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre. Born August 22, 1952 in Meshoppen, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Dorothy (Fenton) LaFrance. Wilma worked at Rushboro Store, now the Dandy Mini Mart for many years. She enjoyed making jewelry, playing guitar and her pets, especially her Beagle Bubba. Survivors include her sons, Vern Hunsinger and Crystal Lewis of Rush Twp., Allen Hunsinger and Elena Shaklee of Lawton; granddaughters, AnnaBelle Hunsinger and Bridgit Lewis; and numerous other loving family members and friends. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her sisters, Carol Fassett and Susie LaFrance; and her longtime companion, Bob Cook. Services were held Thursday at Bartron-Myer Funeral Home, Inc., Montrose. Visitation was held prior to services on Thursday. Robertson, John Joseph  
John Joseph Robertson, 45, of Masonville, N.Y., passed away peacefully on April 7, 2015 at his home. John was born in Sayre, to Joseph and Trudyann (Vitale) Robertson on December 11, 1969. John went to high school in Montrose, and graduated in 1988. He attended Methodist College where he studied golf course management. John worked as the course superintendent at Hardwood Hills Golf Course in Masonville since 2001. He loved his job and helped design and build the back nine holes. John enjoyed playing baseball when he was young, but was introduced to golf by his paternal grandfather as a teenager. He became an avid golfer and participated in a Wednesday night golf league. He enjoyed golfing with his wife and "golfing buddies" in his free time. John's maternal grandfather taught him how to hunt and he shared that hobby with his stepchildren. John is survived by: his wife Jill (Van Pelt) Robertson of Masonville, N.Y.; his stepchildren: Jodi Babcock of Sidney, N.Y., Keli Babcock of Newport News, Va., Lucas Babcock of Bainbridge, N.Y. and Tyler Babcock of Greenwood, Del.; his mother-in-law, Nancy Van Pelt, Sidney, N.Y.; father-in-law, David Van Pelt, Deposit, NY; sisters-in-law, Julie Bonker of Trout Creek, N.Y., Nicole (Scott) Shelton of Trout Creek, N.Y. and Jennifer Gifford of Masonville, N.Y.; his parents Joseph and Trudyann Robertson of Troy, N.Y.; his brother, Richard (Katherine) Robertson of Ravena, N.Y., and his uncle, John Vitale of Montrose; several nieces, nephews, cousins and three grandchildren. Friends are invited to come celebrate his life on Friday, April 17, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. at The River Club Restaurant, 1 Maple Street, Afton, N.Y. Sheffler, Kenneth L.  
Kenneth L. Sheffler, 80, of Montrose, passed away, Saturday, April 11, 2015 at his home. Born November 13, 1934 in Montrose, he was the son of the late Charles and Eva (Sivers) Sheffler. He was a quarryman. In his earlier years he was a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed camping, snowmobiling and hunting. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Beatrice (Strohl) Sheffler; daughter, Loretta S. Sheffler of Montrose; sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin R. and Irini Sheffler of Montrose, Tommy and Brenda Sheffler of Zephyrhills, Fla., Timothy L. Sheffler of Columbia, S.C.; and a daughter and son-in-law Veronica and Ricky Helms of Zephyrhills, Fla.; 12 Grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; brother, Edward Sheffler of Montrose; sister, Rita Nagy of Montrose; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, a sister, Frances Brobst predeceased him. Services will be private. Arrangements were entrusted to the Bartron-Myer Funeral Home, Inc., Montrose, PA.
