Gertrude Kent, 93, of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at her home. Her husband, Modean Kent, predeceased her in 1996.

Gertrude was born on April 5, 1920 in Clifford Twp., to the late Alfred and Elsie Zerfoss Jones.
She is survived by son Thomas A. Kent and wife Jennifer, Lancaster; sister-in-law Jean Jones, Forest City; two goddaughters: Susan Malagari, Monrovia, Md., and Miranda McElroy, Wilmington, Del.; several nieces and nephews, as well as many friends.
She was also predeceased by a sister Gladys Jones (1933); two brothers Kenneth Jones (1989) and Karl Jones (1996).
Gertrude graduated from Harford High School in 1939 and married Modean Kent on September 12, 1945. She was a former 7th degree Grange member and was a member of the First Universalist Church in Brooklyn, for 62 years. She served her church as an active member of the AUW and was a trustee as well until moving to Lancaster, in 2006.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2014, at the First Universalist Church Brooklyn, with the Rev. Ralph Christianson and Rev. Harold Craige, officiating. Interment was in the Westside Cemetery, Brooklyn. Friends may call on the family an hour prior to the service at the church.
