Maurice P. "Dewey" Newhart, Jr., 72, of Montrose, passed away, Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Endless Mountains Health Systems, Montrose.

Born August 10, 1941 in Forest Lake, he was the son of the late Maurice P. Sr. and Vivian (Bishop) Newhart.
Maurice served in the 101st Airborne Division in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Gardner-Warner American Legion Post #154, Montrose, PA.
He loved his family very much and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a craftsman in anything he did including woodworking and building stone walls. Dewey enjoyed fishing and being in the great outdoors.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Nancy (Catlin) Newhart of Montrose; daughter, Amy Newhart of Montrose; son and daughter-in-law, Maurice T. Newhart and Amanda Sabot-Newhart of Dickson City; his other children, Candy and Karen; grandchildren, Rachel Mae and Erik Todd Newhart and several other grandchildren; numerous siblings and their spouses; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by three sisters.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 3, 2014, 2-3 p.m., at the Bartron-Myer Funeral Home, Inc., Montrose.
