Many friends helped him during his eight month battle with esophageal cancer. He expressed thanks to those around him, and was overwhelmed by the support he received at his benefit on May 4, 2013 at the Choconut Inn.
Mike, a 1982 Graduate from Montrose Area High School, former owner of hair salon, Contemporary Cuts and sales representative and educator for Paul Brown products, made friends for life everywhere he went. Within minutes of meeting Mike, he would be remembered for his joking charm, quick wit, his love for the Boston Red Sox, the pride he had for his classic 1973 Chevy Nova and the pet nicknames he made for all the people he knew.
Michael, born October 14, 1964, was predeceased by his parents Lucille and Michael J. Swaha Sr.
He is survived by his son, the center of his life, Nick Swaha of Hallstead; his sister, Kathleen Swaha of Montrose, sister, Susan Hine and husband, James Hine of Williamsport, Alan Harvey and wife, Melissa of Woodbridge, Va., Jennifer Dankel and husband, Andy and son Ben of Elmira, N.Y., Heather Harvey and Fiancé, John Yencho of Hazleton; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A special thanks is given to his friends Mark and Michelle Butler who opened their home to Mike near the end of his fight. Also, a thank you to Bill Dovin, Denise Scordino, Gordie Shultz, Donnie Hillard, Andy Van Kuren, George Starzec, Kelly Huber, Andy Vaccaro, Elizabeth Allen, the staff at Lourdes Hospice and Sacred Heart Hospice for their gentle kindness and help through Mike's final battle.
A Funeral Rite will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, November 15, 2013 at the Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home with the Father Philip Rayappan. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m.
