Dorothy J. "Grandma" Carey, 91, of Choconut, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Friday, April 18, 2014 at Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton, NY, after a brief illness. Her husband Vaughn C. Carey predeceased her on January 10, 1994.

Born May 14, 1922 in Vestal Center, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Nelson and Marilla (Webster) Towslee.

She retired from IBM after many years of service. During Dorothy's life, she also drove school bus, worked for the Vestal News and until recently worked at the Choconut Market.

She was a member of the Republican Committee for many years including serving on the Choconut Township Election Board. Dorothy was a member of Bridgewater South Vestal, the former South Vestal Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was actively involved with the Lydian Ladies. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her friends and family.

She was loved and adored by many in the Church and community and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her dedicated and loyal friend for many years, Shirley Smith; two loving sons and daughters-in-law, David and Linda Carey of Brackney, Dennis and Mary Carey of Montrose; grandchildren and their spouses, David Jr., James (Lori), Tammy, Heather (Chris), Jason, Colleen (Mike); great grandchildren, Morgan, Shawn, Jonathan, Brian, Brittaney, Cody James, Tyler, Lucas, Amber, Teghan, Kelsey, Maddi Lynn, Baylee, Payton, Brayden, Maxwell; great-great-grandchild, Cadence Aleksandrea; sisters-in-law, Shirley Carey and Elizabeth Carey-Matthews; niece and nephew, Anna Carey and Timothy Carey; and many cousins, neighbors and friends.

Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by a sister, Betty Colbert; sister-in-law, Harriett Carey; brothers-in-law, Franklin Carey, Marcel Carey and Douglas Carey.

Visitation was held Tuesday evening, April 22, at Bartron-Myer Funeral Home, Montrose. Services will be held today, Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at 11 a.m., from the Bartron-Myer Funeral Home, Montrose.
