Steve Vendel
61, of Fortville, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012. He was born February 24, 1950 to the late Herman and Marie (Jermark) Vendel in Bryan, TX. He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1967 and Ball State University. Mr. Vendel was a realtor, owning and operating Steve Vendel Realtors for over 35 years and was a member of the Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of Realtors. He was an avid golfer and a life member of Idlewold Golf Club in Pendleton. He sponsored a team in the Mt. Vernon Youth Baseball League for over 35 years as well. Steve loved wintering in the Florida Keys and was an unofficial ambassador of Fortville there. Steve is survived by wife Vicky (Hunt) Vendel, whom he married on August 7, 1995; step-sons Jeff Davis of Fishers and Greg Davis of Indianapolis; brothers Lawrence (Suzanne) Vendel of Ft. Myers, FL and Robert (Mollie) Vendel of Ingalls; niece Tailer Vendel of Anderson; and three step-nieces.
Friends may call on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 from 4 to 8 pm at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with calling there from 10 am. Burial will follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Larry Stipe/ALS Fund, c/o Professional Police Officers Credit Union, 1502 E. Steve and I were 2 of the first employees hired at the Daily Queen in Fortville. Fun times for sure. Steve and the "grape" were well known in town. You'll be missed by many.
