William Bowman Obituary

William T. Bowman, Sr.

Bill Bowman, of Indianapolis, died October 31, 2013 at Community North Hospital. He was the son of Benjamin Thompson Bowman and Dorcas Elizabeth Dixon. Bill Bowman was born November 13, 1924 in Milford, Michigan.

He is survived by his children, daughter, Nancy Davidson, Kansas City, Kansas, and son, William T. Bowman, Jr., Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Tyler Bowman, Michael(Kate) Davidson, Lisa Davidson(Charles) Brooke; and three great grandchildren.

Bill dropped out of high school in 1942, his senior year, and joined the United States Marine Corps. His unit of service was 11 Marine Air Wing, Mag 24. His locations of service were San Diego, California, Jacksonville, Florida, Cherry Point, North Carolina, amp Miramar, California, Pacific Theatre-China, Okinawa Island, and the Ryukyu Islands. His highest rank was Sargent. He received two Presidential Citations. He completed high school in Peking, China. Bill received a BS degree in business from Western Michigan University in 1951. He married Sally Ann Gordon, November 17, 1951, at the First Congregational Church in Pontiac, Michigan. They were married 61 years.

Bill was a USTA National Senior Team tennis champion in 1996. Bill completed the "Veterans History Project," sponsored by Richard Lugar and the Daughters of the American Revolution, which is published in the Library of Congress.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East , 10722 E. Washington Street. Memorial contributions can be made to: the United States Marine Foundation, Old Bethel United Methodist Church, Indianapolis, and the Community Health Network Foundation.
