Roy Mayberry Obituary

Roy M. Mayberry, Jr.

73, of Indianapolis, died on February 15, 2013. He was born in Evansville on February 11, 1940. He was a graduate of Arizona State University and Indiana University, Bloomington. Roy fought with the U.S. Army Special Forces in Vietnam and was wounded in action in 1969. He was a CRNA and practiced anesthesia until shortly before his death. He was a member of St. Simon the Apostle Catholic Church. Roy loved his family, his many friends and especially IU basketball and Notre Dame football.

Roy was preceded in death by his father, Roy Mayberry Sr. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Karen; his son, Sean (Kathy); grandsons, Daniel and Matthew; his mother, Anna (Jim) Papageorge; brothers, Donald (Barb) Mayberry, Fred Mayberry, and John (Sandy) Papageorge; sisters, Meryl (Ed) Roeger, Cheryl (Gene) Byers and Misty (Paul) Linne; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 22 in Crown Hill Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 23 in the Crown Hill Gothic Chapel at 1 p.m., with calling there from Noon. Memorial service will then be followed by full military honors at the graveside committal service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to IU Simon Cancer Center or the Wounded Warrior Project.
