Malcolm Long Obituary

Dr. Malcolm D. Long M.D.

84, of Indianapolis, passed away at St. Vincent Hospice on October 4, 2013. Born in Plymouth, Indiana he spent his early life in Northern Indiana. After graduation from Purdue University, Malcolm joined the U.S. Air Force and was a fighter pilot in ADC. Following active duty, he started medical school at IUMC, but remained active for several years in the Air Force reserves. Following graduation from medical school, he maintained a practice in family medicine in the northern suburbs of Indianapolis, and after five years in family practice returned to St. Vincent hospitals for residency in Radiology, and became board certified in Radiology, practicing this specialty in Central Indiana for the next 30 years. He was a member of Zionsville Presbyterian Church and an elder. Malcolm had been on many short term mission trips to both Central America and Romania. He also worked at an intercity clinic with volunteers in medicine. He is survived by wife, Wilma; two children, Sharon (Jim) Dotson and son, Gregory (Elaine) Long; two step-children, Eric Shelton and Candace McBee, and four grandchildren. Special thanks to Dr. Gregory Spurgin M.D. and Dr. Emily Giesel M.D. for their care. Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Zionsville Presbyterian Church, visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Zionsville Presbyterian Church Missions Funds, 4775 West 116th Street, Zionsville, IN 46077. Arrangements: Indiana Funeral Care and Crematory.

My thoughts of Malcolm and Justin, who I met only when I was in my dotage, have more to do with the myths from Mom of the Irwins, and the delight with which I always received a book or a game at Christmas from "Aunt Babe."
