Robert Joseph Eder
85, of Rushville, died April 28, 2013.
Born December 4, 1927 in North Vernon, IN a son of the late Louis G. and Colletta (Lauth) Eder. He married Betty J. More June 12, 1949 and she survives. His loving family includes a son, Stephen (Jane) Eder of Jefferson City, MO; daughters, Karen (Frank) Harpring of Rushville and Lisa Ruttenberg of Cincinnati, OH; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Eder, son-in-law, Peter Ruttenberg, twin brothers, Harold and Gerald Eder; and a sister, Virginia Rentschler.
He graduated high school in 1946 from St. Joseph Academy of Rensselaer, IN and Indiana University with his BS in 1953 and LLB degree in 1955. While at Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington, he was note editor of the Indiana Law Journal 1954-55. He was admitted to the Bar June 15, 1955.
Bob started as an associate with Walter B Keaton in 1955 and a few years later started his own practice until 1965, when he became a partner with Kenneth Earnest and James Foster in the law firm to be then known as Earnest, Foster & Eder, later known as Earnest, Foster, Eder & Levi. He was City Attorney for the City of Rushville 1964-67 and practiced law over 50 years. He was recognized with many community and civic achievements through out his life.
His memberships include the National Lawyers Assoc., Indiana State Bar Assoc., Rush County Bar Assoc. (past president), Rush County ARC, director and past treasurer, American Legion; Rush County Chamber of Commerce; St. Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 769 PKG, St. Mary Catholic School Foundation founding director, Calvary Cemetery Foundation, and a past director of ARC of Indiana.
Bob was a Army Veteran of the Korean War, serving two enlistments. He loved to bowl in local leagues and was an avid fisherman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 2nd at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Jeremy Gries officiating, burial will follow at Rushville's Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 1st from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Todd Funeral Centre & Crematory where all are asked to recite the rosary at 4:00 p.m.
