He attended Shortridge High School and then De Pauw University. His college years were temporarily interrupted by WWII and serving in the U.S. Navy. He graduated with a degree in mathematics and education and worked for Shortridge HS teaching math and coaching the freshman basketball team. Later he received his MA from Butler in education. He was active in the International Snipe Sailing class as commodore in 1959 and he and his brother Harry were national and regional champions and represented the USA in Worlds and Pan-American championships.

Buzz remained active his entire life. He supported the Wheeler-Dowe Boys & Girls Club of Indianapolis, he led the Carpe Diem academy for many years, and in partnership with the Indianapolis Service Club they taught children reading and math in elementary school. Over the last 20 years, he ran his own T-shirt company where he designed his products to carry ideas and humor to thousands of customers.

Any donations in his memory should be made to the Wheeler-Dowe Boys and Girls Club, 2310 East 30th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46218.
