Dr. Donald Lanham Barnes

88, Westfield, died February 19, 2013. Don was born in Medina, OH on September 20, 1924. After serving our country in the 106th Infantry Division in Europe from 1943 until 1946, Don completed his undergraduate degree at Miami University in Ohio, a masters degree at Columbia University, and a Doctorate in Education at Northern Colorado University. He taught in Guam as well as in Darjeeling, India, worked for the YMCA in Bangkok, Thailand, and served as a consultant to the Taiwan College of Education. In the United States, he taught public school in Algona, Iowa, at Mankato State University, and finally at Ball State University Teachers College from 1956 to 1989. Don loved music and nature, but most of all he was a loving father and grandfather. Surviving is his wife Joan; three children, Susan Tharp (husband Steve), Frankfort, Becky Moss (husband Albert), Carmel, and Elizabeth Rushton (husband Jerry), Zionsville; nine grandchildren. Interment will take place at Jones Cemetery in Muncie. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 24, 2013, at College Avenue United Methodist Church, 1968 W.
