Freda M. Norman
90, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Sable Palms Rehabilitation Center in Largo, Fla. She was a current resident of Indian Rocks Beach, Fla., and previously of Danville. She was born Oct. 19, 1922, in Indianapolis. Her parents were William Isaac and Alma Fern Scott Dale. She married Harry E. Norman on May 11, 1941, in Clermont. Survivors include two sons, Larry L. Norman of Danville and Randy L. Norman of Greenwood; two daughters, Lana L. Bracewell of Indian Rocks Beach, Fla., and Kathy J. Owens of Danville; seven grandchildren, Kevin, Adam, Laura Norman. Gretchen Owens Rexroat and Abigail Owens. Amy Wenditz and Lorna Bracewell; and nine great-grandchildren, Kimberlin, Jenna, Tessa, Jackson, Elijah, Deacon, Bodie Norman. Leah and Levi Rexroat; and one sister, Juanita Carney of Eminence. She was preceded in death by her husband in December 2005 and her brother, Paul Dale. She graduated from Lizton High School in 1940. She was a member of New Brunswick Church of Christ in Lebanon where she taught Sunday school and volunteered at Vacation Bible School for many years. She taught many through her life and actions what it meant to be content as a Christian and her love of the Lord was evident. She also was a member of the Hendricks County Home Economics Club and the Hendricks County Hospital Guild. She poured her life into others, which was most evident during her time spent at Opportunity Cottage, which later became Sycamore Services Inc. in Danville. She started as a volunteer at Opportunity Cottage, then became a teacher's aide, a co-director and finally the director of the program. She was instrumental in providing public information about Opportunity Cottage, which opened the door to many significant financial contributions to the Cottage. Her fondest memories were living and helping on the farm in Danville. She loved gardening and canning, but most of all she loved visiting with her family and friends.
Minister Jim Coyle will conduct a service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Baker Funeral Home, 387 E. Broadway St., in Danville. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown.
