George S. Barrett

George Stanley Barrett

85, passed away on February 17, 2014. He was born on November 3, 1928 to the late Daniel and Queen Esther Barrett in Fayette City, PA. George was a veteran of the United States Army and a retired Baptist Minister. He worked on the railroad and in steel mills in PA. Before entering into the private police field of work, George was assigned as a bodyguard for Mavis Staples of the famous Staple Singers. He moved to Indianapolis in the late 80's. George was employed by Vance Security and worked for the Indianapolis Star for 22 years as a Security Officer, until the age of 81. His illness forced him into retirement in 2009. He loved his crossword puzzles, Nascar, James Patterson novels and Chuck Norris movies.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Queen Esther Barrett; his wife, Patricia Barrett; son, Lawrence Barrett; brother, Windsor Barrett and sister, Glorie Barrett. He leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Leslie (Catherine) Barrett, Bradley Barrett; daughter, Erica Pointer; sisters, Rosie Ridgely, Marie (Richard) Clark; brother, Nathaniel (Bridgette) Barrett, beloved nephew, Gary Clark of Indianapolis and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, longtime companion, Lynda Bell and the entire Indianapolis Star family.

Services will be held at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 230 Reed Ave., Monessen, PA, 15062. Date and time of service is still pending due to weather conditions.
