George S. "Scott" Olive, Jr.
Age 94 a CPA and Butler Professor Emeritus of Indianapolis and Brown County, Indiana died January 25, 2013. He was born on May 20, 1918 to the late George S. Olive, Sr. and Louise Carpenter Olive. Scott was a graduate of Harvard University. He was inducted into the US Army in 1942 as a Private. He was later sent to Officers Training School at Duke University, Durham. NC. He served in the Pentagon as an instructor at Army/Navy Industrial College. Major Olive was given a Medical Discharge in 1946, after a serious illness and surgery. He returned to Indianapolis to the firm of George S. Olive & Co., the accounting firm that his Dad had founded in 1917. He was there for 30 years. He served as Chairman of Policy Committee and retired in 1981.
He went to Butler University in 1981 as Professor of Accounting in the School of Business and he retired a second time in 1992.
He served on the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce Board from 1962 to 1979 and was also their Treasurer. He was President of the Indiana CPA Society in 1956. He was on the Founding Board of the Indianapolis Zoo, also on the Founding Board of St. Richard's Episcopal School and it's first Treasurer. He was a former member and treasurer of Trinity Episcopal Church. He later transferred to St. Paul's Episcopal Church when he moved farther north. He was also affiliated with St. David's Episcopal Church at Beanblossom in Brown County, Indiana. He was on the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Health Foundation Of Greater Indianapolis and also on the Board of Directors and Treasurer of Shepherd Center at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He was Chairman of The Stewardship Commission at the Episcopal Dioceses of Indianapolis. He served on the State Board of the Committee to Combat Huntington's Disease (CCHD).
Scott was preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years, Sally Resseguie Olive and second wife Hazel Lemmons Smith Olive along with his son George S. (Scott) Olive, III.
He is survived by his children: David R. (Lora) Olive, James K. (Sue) Olive and daughter, Anne Olive (Jim) Moore and a step- son, M. David (Raelynn) Smith. There are eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather on Tuesday January 29, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel with a funeral service on Wednesday January 30, 2013 at 11:00 am in St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
Private family inurnment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
