James B. Lee

James B. Lee, CLU

86, of Indianapolis, passed away September 4, 2013. He was born July 8, 1927, in New Castle, IN, to the late Wilbur and Hallie Shirk Lee. James was a 1949 graduate of Indiana University where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952, and married Joan Dee Cooper Lee. James received a citizenship award from the New Castle Chamber of Commerce in 1955, and his Chartered Life Underwriting Certificate in 1958.

James moved to Indianapolis in 1962 for employment with Indianapolis Life Insurance Co., retiring in 1983 as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. He was a past member, Elder, and Clerk of Session of Orchard Park Presbyterian Church and founding member of New Hope Presbyterian Church, Fishers. James was a past president of the New Castle Rotary Club and served alongside President Carter with Habitat for Humanity in both Los Angeles and South Korea. He served on the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of Central Indiana, the Buchanan Counseling Center, the YMCA, Indianapolis Life Insurance Company and Noble Center of Indiana.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 10, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 12550 Brooks School Rd., Fishers, with funeral services Wednesday at 11:00 a.m.

James is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Joan Dee Lee; daughter, Beth Kuhn; sons, Robert G. (Anne) Lee and Mark A. Lee; grandchildren, Christin Lee (Mike), Jordan Lee, Britt Kuhn and Taylor Kuhn; brother, John A. Lee (Marty); and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Virginia Lee, preceded him in death.
