James U. Mason

Born April 1, 1924, in Amarillo, Texas, to Alma (Pierce) and Elmer J. Mason, died Tuesday, June 20th after a brief illness. Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sue R. Mason; daughters, Sharon Chambers (Mike), Patty Hefner (Tom); grandchildren, Jen, Jeff and Anne Marie Chambers, Curt and Hank Hefner; and one great-grand child, Elise Chambers. A World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy, he graduated from the University of Tulsa and continued post-graduate studies at SMU. Jim began his career with Crane Co. while still an undergraduate and rose to National Sales Manager before leaving the firm. He joined Stewart Warner Corp. in 1964, bringing the family to Indiana. In 1991, he retired from Mutual Pipe & Supply in Indianapolis and then enjoyed volunteering at IU North Hospital and being on staff at Stony Creek Golf Course. Jim was a member of the Indianapolis Scottish Rite, the Board of the IN United Methodist Children's Home and Rotary International, where he served as President in Lebanon, IN and was named a Paul Harris Fellow. Jim's loves were family, friends, golf and watching sports, especially football. Services will be held in Robertson Chapel at St. Luke's UMC, where he and Sue are member, on Monday, June 24th at 10:00 am with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Luke's UMC-Fletcher Place Project, 100 W. 86th St, Indianapolis, 46240 or Wheeler Mission, P.O. Box 3085, Indianapolis, 46206.
