Indianapolis. Beloved mother and grandmother, Joan H. Duane, 84, of Indianapolis passed away on April 1, 2014. Joan was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Fred J. and Alice Hartmann on July 16, 1929.

Mrs. Duane graduated from Indiana University and later became a tax preparer for H. & R. Block. She married Thomas E. Duane on April 22, 1950. She was a Kappa Alpha Theta. Joan was a volunteer for St. Vincent Hospital and St. Pius X Catholic Church.

Joan is survived by her children: Michael (Clare) Duane, Sharon Koomler (Jerry Grant), Brian Duane, William (Alison) Duane, Sarah (Jim) Hedden; 9 grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren. She is also survived by brother, Fred Hartmann, and sister, Barbara Russell. Joan is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Duane, and sister, Mary Craig.

Visitation will be 4 - 7 on Friday, April 4, 2014 at Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel (740 E. 86th St. Indianapolis). There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Pius X at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 5 2014. Donations may be made to St. Vincent's Hospital Foundation.
