Leonard Gombold

Leonard Gombold

90, of Noblesville, died on June 26, 2013. He was born January 31, 1923 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, the son of Emil and Mary Gombold. He was the husband of Mary (Hickel) Gombold, Noblesville, who survives. Leonard was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Noblesville and a World War II U. S. Army Veteran. He retired from the Field Engineering Division of IBM in 1983. After his retirement he organized the Noblesville Community Outreach and worked with them for many years counseling and assisting the disadvantaged of the community with their housing and financial concerns.

He was preceded in death by wife, Jerry Lee (Hightower) Gombold. A daughter, Leslie Therese (Alan) Bean survives. In 1951 he married Rose (Terhune) Gombold. Rose passed away in July of 1986, after 35 years of marriage, leaving two sons, James (Szi) Gombold of Ambler, Pennsylvania and Kenneth (Rose) Gombold of Largo, Florida and one daughter, Tari (Ed) Gorski of Indianapolis.

Other survivors include brothers, John (Dolores) Gombold of North Saint Paul, Minnesota, Frank (Donna) Gombold of Sun Lakes, Arizona and Marcella Gombold of Prescott, Arizona; grandchildren, Serena, Kathryn, Sarah, Daniel, Sara, Hanna Rose, and Abigail, plus many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Grace Church, 9901 East 191st Street, in Noblesville on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Thomas Metzger officiating.

Visitation will be one hour before Mass at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Our Lady of Grace, St. Vincent de Paul Society, or to the donor's favorite charity.

In honoring his wishes, cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Neptune Society.
