Mary Ann Henderson

78, of Bedford, and longtime resident of Indianapolis, died at 12:25 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2013 in Westview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Bedford.

She was born February 5, 1934 in Indianapolis to the late Frank & Margaret Luke and attended Indianapolis Tech schools.

Her marriage was to Rev. William R. Henderson on January 31, 1949.

The wife of a preacher, Mary was not only a homemaker but supported her husband while he looked after some of the city's most needy through his ministry at Inner City Baptist Church on Southeastern Avenue for 28 years. While there, she enjoyed singing with the ladies gospel group at church. Mr. Henderson preceded her in death on February 8, 1999.

Mary had a deep love for animals, liked listening to the Gaither's and watching old movies. In her later years, she enjoyed writing poems and collecting stickers for children with cancer and other disabilities being treated at Riley Hospital.

Surviving are her children, William R. Henderson (wife: Gloria) of Chalmers, IN, Donna Bowden (husband: Jerry) of Indianapolis, Doris Keyt (husband: Greg) of Bradenton FL and Robert Henderson of Indianapolis.

Also surviving are her 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a special niece who was like a sister to her, Henrietta Ashby.

Preceding her in death with her parents and husband are 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2013 at Floral Park Mausoleum Chapel (425 N. Holt Rd, Indianapolis, IN). Her son, Pastor Bill Henderson to officiate. Interment to follow in the Floral Park Cemetery.
