Myrna Powell Graham
born in Halifax, Virginia, on November 7, 1942 passed away peacefully in her home in Charlotte, NC, on November 3rd, 2012, surrounded by family and friends. Myrna fought a valiant battle against cancer over an eight-year period, facing this terrible disease with grace and dignity. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Katherine Graham Fernandez and son-in-law, Dr. Alejandro Fernandez, and her beloved granddaughter, Elena; her sister Betty Powell Squatriglia and brother-in-law Dr. Robert Squatriglia; her brother Wyley Powell and brother-in-law Sanjay Alexander; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and aunts.
Myrna was universally adored for her selfless nature, her ability to listen and empathize without being judgmental and her ability to make the best of several difficult situations that she endured over the course of her adult life. She cultivated numerous friendships from her earliest childhood. During her lengthy illness, Myrna truly reaped what she sowed as several of her closest friends volunteered to stay and care for her for extended periods of time. She touched so many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Myrna attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. She spent most of her working career in various positions at Indianapolis Power and Light.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at Forest Hill Church, 7224 Park Road, Charlotte, NC, on Saturday, November 10, at 1:00 p.m.
