Priscilla A. Bethel

Priscilla Ann Bethel

85, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2013. Priscilla was born on March 2, 1928 on the Northside of Chicago to the late Charles and Ina (Weed) Griswold. The Griswold heritage goes back to the 1700's. Priscilla was a 1949 graduate of DePauw University. There she was a Phi Beta Kappa, second among women in her graduating class. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega and social chair, where she met her husband, Jim, who was the sorority's head waiter. She was offered a graduate scholarship to Ohio State University, but turned it down because of her marriage in 1950. Priscilla obtained her Master's in Education from Indiana University in 1970.

Priscilla was a social studies middle school teacher for twenty years. Her love of nurturing and teaching also allowed her to tutor children into her after years of retirement. She also enjoyed ministry and teachings to seniors. She belonged to several bridge groups and was a long-standing member of The Church of the Saviour UMC. There she played the organ alternately for services. Priscilla also appeared in a number of theatre productions for The Epilogue Theatre Group.

Priscilla is survived by her loving husband of 63 years; their children, James Todd Bethel, Jody Ann Baxter, and Cynthia Joan Martin; and their grandchildren, Andrew, Margaret, and Max.

Priscilla was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Dick Griswold.
