Robert "Bob" Burns

88, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on February 6, 2013. He was born on December 11, 1924 in Beavers Falls, Pennsylvania. Bob worked for Monumental Life, retiring in 1981. He was a veteran, serving in WWII with the 1st Marine Division. Bob received two Purple Hearts, as well as three Presidential Unit Citations for combat in Guadalcanal, Okinawa and Peleliu. Bob was an avid reader, enjoyed baseball, boxing, IU sports and the outdoors. He was a member of the American Legion Post 38, Mystic Masonic Lodge and Lawrence United Methodist Church. Bob possessed great humility and loved being around his family, especially his grandchildren, who will miss him greatly. He is survived by his son, Robert Thomas "Thom" (Linda) Burns; brother, Walter (Carrie) Burns and grandchildren, Chelsea, Mckenzie and Zachary. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Patsy Burns. Friends may visit with the family from Noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2013 in Flanner and Buchanan - Washington Park East , 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN, with a service beginning at 2 p.m. Entombment will take place in Washington Park East Cemetery following services.
